During the April 11, 2025, commission meeting at the Arizona Game and Fish headquarters at 5000 W. Carefree Highway, the commission will be contesting a petition filed by the Center for Biological Diversity to ban hound hunting across the state of Arizona. Hunting groups are urging hound hunters to attend the meeting and show support for the long-standing tradition of using working dogs to take wildlife.
The Center for Biological Diversity filed an emotional plea back in December, urging the commission to ban hound hunting under the guise of protecting endangered species such as jaguars, ocelots, and Mexican gray wolves. The commission initially rejected the petition until corrections were made. It has now been resubmitted and placed on the agenda for consideration. The proposed action would amend Arizona Administrative Code R12-4-318 (Seasons for Lawfully Taking Wild Mammals, Birds, and Reptiles) and R12-4-304 (Lawful Methods for Taking Wild Mammals, Birds, and Reptiles).
You can attend the commission meeting in person or remotely. Those who wish to speak to the commission must attend in person at any regional office and fill out a blue speaker card.
